Harlequin provides guidance and information to ensure the correct floor is chosen for all performance considerations.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT FLOOR

Choosing the correct floor for dance is important for health, safety and artistic performance. Expecting students to dance on a hard, unyielding surface can lead to a variety of ankle and shin stress related injuries that may also reduce a dancer’s career in the long term. Whether for an educational program, performing arts facility or classroom use, we can ensure the right floor is chosen.

VINYL/MARLEY FLOORS

Vinyl floors offer a degree of ‘traction’ that allows dancers and performers of all ages to be able to fully express their artistic movements without the fear of slipping or falling due to a shiny or slippery surface.

SPRUNG FLOOR SYSTEMS

With increasing awareness of health and safety legislation, it is always advisable to consider the possibility of a sprung floor. Sprung floors provide some degree of bounce and flex under impact. Performers need this to absorb shock and protect their joints from injury, especially when performing jumps. Permanent and portable options are available.

SPORTS vs DANCE FLOORS

Because many specifiers will have experience with traditional flooring and most likely sports flooring, it is important that they are aware of the importance of specifying floors designed specifically for dance.
