Harlequin Attends Pointe’s Anniversary Celebration

We had a fantastic time at Pointe’s Tutu Anniversary celebration!  Such incredible insights from all the panelists and we loved catching up with our friends in the dance community.

It’s hard to believe that 22 years have gone by since Pointe first came into being. On June 11, the organization brought the ballet community together, in person, for a day-long event celebrating Pointe’s beloved artform. (Thanks to the coronavirus, what was to be their 20th-anniversary party turned into their 22nd. But with this being 2022—the year of the tutu—they felt it was the perfect time to reschedule.)

The event included dance classes, an injury prevention presentation, and a historic walking tour at the New York City Center.

In the evening, we attended the evening celebration at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.  There was a timeline of Pointe’s history that included past covers, stories, other milestones, and some of the Harlequin ads that have been featured since the very first issue of Pointe in 2000.

A panel discussion featuredSan Francisco Ballet principal Sasha De Sola, international guest ballet teacher Miko Fogarty, Boston Ballet second soloist Michaela DePrince, Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Ingrid Silva, Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s Tatiana Melendez and American Ballet Theatre corps member Tyler Maloney. They discussed different career paths of dancers, managing social media, and the need for a more inclusive, diverse ballet industry that better reflects the world we live in.
