This year’s Dance Magazine Awards were held at Buttenwieser Hall in The Arnhold Center, 92NY, New York City, on December 4th, and the evening featured performances and presentations for each award recipient, acknowledging their significant contributions to the arts and for demonstrating creativity, integrity, and resilience in the dance industry.

This year’s distinguished honorees include Antoine Hunter, Alicia Graf Mack, Norton Owen, Bijayini Satpathy, and Maria Torres. The Chairman’s Award was bestowed upon Jody Gottfried Arnold, while the Harkness Promise Awards were presented to Amad ‘Baye’ Washington, Sam ‘Asa’ Pratt of Baye & Asa, and Omar Román De Jesús. In a poignant tribute, the posthumous Dance Magazine Awards paid homage to the legacies of Syvilla Fort, Gregory Hines, Pearl Primus, and Helen Tamiris.

This year’s ceremony showcased remarkable honorees and presented captivating and enlightening dance performances. Each performance stood out in its uniqueness, celebrating facets such as African American culture, perspectives from the Deaf Community, and impeccably crafted contemporary dances. All these performances perfectly reflected the individuality of each honoree, capturing the essence of their distinct contributions and stories.
