Philadelphia Ballet launched its 2024/25 season with an impressive production of ‘Le Corsaire‘, performed at the Academy of Music from October 18 to 26, 2024. Inspired by Lord Byron’s poem and set to Adolphe Adam’s music, this classic ballet captivated audiences with its dynamic tale of love, betrayal, and adventure.

Under Artistic Director Angel Corella, who celebrates a decade with the company, the production thrived with his personal touch. Corella’s experience as a former principal with the American Ballet Theatre, where he performed leading roles in ‘Le Corsaire’, brought a rich depth of knowledge and passion to this staging.

The performance stood out for its energetic storytelling and focused on Conrad’s mission to rescue his love, Medora, from the affluent Pasha. Audiences enjoyed a blend of athleticism and drama, enhanced by the production’s unique emphasis on male roles—a rarity in classical ballet.

Adding to the celebration, Philadelphia Ballet held a special 60th Anniversary Gala on October 25, featuring highlights from the company’s past, showcasing both classical and contemporary styles.
