OVERVIEW
Celebrity Cruises required a more efficient and durable solution for stage mapping within its rehearsal studios. Traditionally, each room’s stage footprint was taped out manually for every rehearsal, an ongoing and time-consuming process involving taping the layouts, removing the tape, cleaning the vinyl, and re-taping.
THE CHALLENGE
The repetitive taping process consumed valuable time and subjected the vinyl flooring to frequent adhesive residue and wear. With multiple stage layouts needed per room, Celebrity Cruises needed a permanent solution that could streamline rehearsal setup while preserving the integrity of their rehearsal floors.
HARLEQUIN’S SOLUTION
Harlequin collaborated with Celebrity Cruises to develop a long-term, precision-driven solution. To alleviate the time and work of taping and retaping the layouts, Harlequin proposed permanently welding the footprint of the stages into each room. The Harlequin team collected measurements of the studios and the various cruise ship stages used in productions and then created detailed CAD layouts to submit for client approval.
Once on site, Harlequin technicians used CAD to map out the exact stage layouts directly on the Harlequin Cascade™ vinyl floor. We then permanently welded the stage layouts directly into the vinyl flooring using different weld rod colors, blue, green, black and orange, to distinguish between each of the three stages per room.
RESULTS
– 4 rehearsal rooms were fitted with 3 stage layouts each, resulting in 12 unique welded footprints across the facility.
– Each stage footprint was color-coded for easy visual reference.
– The new solution eliminated the need for repetitive taping and reduced setup time significantly.
– With multiple layouts embedded in each room, Celebrity Cruises now has increased flexibility when scheduling rehearsals.
