Recent Harlequin Project Receives Achitizer A+ Award

A recent project which Harlequin was selected to outfit was just featured in the latest issue of Premier Construction and was awarded the magazine’s Architizer A+ Award.

The project – The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences – is a new state-of-the-art performance venue in Lubbock, Texas.

While it is known as the original live music capital, Lubbock lost its heart after two tornadoes destroyed the downtown core in 1970. The city’s performance venue, built in 1955, was left in disrepair and a group of citizens wanted to reinvigorate the cultural dynamics of the city, according to the article. Buddy Holly Hall represents a city redefining itself through collaborative design and a community-funded commitment to the arts.

The 220,000 square-foot dynamic venue features a 2,300-seat main performance hall; 425-seat small theater; a 6,000 square-foot multi-purpose room; a full-service bistro and Ballet Lubbock. Ballet Lubbock operates the 22,000 square-foot dance center which boasts six dance studios, parent and community space, production areas, and administrative offices.

Harlequin was part of the team selected to outfit the Ballet Lubbock space. Working with Z Floor Company, a Harlequin Liberty® panel system was installed permanently topped with Harlequin Studio B® marley vinyl as the top performance surface. As part of the project, Harlequin wall-mounted, double ballet barres were also installed throughout the dance center. To accommodate performances in the theatre space, Ballet Lubbock chose Harlequin Cascade™ as their portable marley vinyl dance floor.
