Wayne McGregor’s Deepstaria Premiered in London

SIR WAYNE MCGREGOR’S DEEPSTARIA MADE ITS UK PREMIERE AT SADLER’S WELLS.

From Thursday, February 27, to Sunday, March 2, Deepstaria was performed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, including a post-show talk on Thursday with Wayne McGregor and Alistair Spalding, Artistic Director, and Co-Chief Executive.

Deepstaria offered the audience a meditative, pure dance and sound experience inspired by the deep sea’s shape-shifting life and an enigmatic jellyfish species.

The New York Times named it as “One of the Best Dance Performances of 2024”.

Wayne McGregor chose Harlequin Hi-Shine™ Black performance vinyl floor to create a vibrant and unique stage production. By utilizing Vantablack technology on stage, McGregor and the set designers, Benjamin Males and Theresa Baumgartner created ‘unfathomable darkness that disturbs traditional hierarchies of perception.’

“In Deepstaria, we wanted to create an environment that disturbs traditional hierarchies of perception, a reflective void of unfathomable darkness. Harlequin Hi-Shine™ plays an extraordinary role in this shifting of the senses,” Sir Wayne McGregor, Choreographer and Director.

Deepstaria had its world premiere on June 22, 2024, at the Montpellier Dance Festival before touring to the Spoleto Festival.

Now that it has premiered in London, McGregor plans to continue showcasing Deepstaria around the world over the following four years.
