Dutch National Opera & Ballet

The Dutch National Opera & Ballet has been a client of Harlequin for many years, choosing Harlequin floors for its studios, auditorium, and touring. The Dutch National Opera & ballet decided it was time to upgrade the main stage by installing Harlequin Liberty Switch®. Located in Amsterdam, the opera house is home to many singers, dancers, performers, and creators from the Dutch National Opera and the Dutch National Ballet.

With numerous productions taking place throughout the year, the opera house needed a simple solution for their need for frequent and quick turnarounds. Harlequin Liberty Switch is a professional multi-use floor system that transforms from a rigid theatrical floor to a sprung performance floor with the touch of a button. Before installing the new system, the Dutch National Opera and Ballet was equipped with Harlequin Liberty® LatchLoc sprung floor panels and relied completely on ballet wagons. The installation of the Harlequin Liberty Switch was a fully customized project, with panels laid out along the perimeter of the stage. This strategic design preserved the opera house’s ability to seamlessly incorporate a central ballet wagon, ensuring a perfect blend of modern innovation and traditional stagecraft.

Harlequin’s European installation team worked with the UK technical and installation teams to deliver this Harlequin Liberty Switch installation. Harlequin worked closely with the Dutch National Opera & Ballet technical teams throughout the design and installation process.

The Dutch National Opera & Ballet has many productions leading up to the holidays and the New Year, including Die Fledermaus and The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
