The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition returns to the Royal Academy of Dance Headquarters this year with over 60 candidates participating in the semi-finals.
The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition is the Royal Academy of Danceโs annual event which is known as one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world.
The Fonteyn offers all candidates the opportunity to work with a variety of choreographers and professionals at the RAD HQ before they perform during The Fonteyn final at His Majestyโs Theatre in London.
All candidates danced on a Harlequin sprung floor with a Harlequin vinyl top surface at the RAD studios and the RADโs Aud Jebsen Studio Theatre. At His Majestyโs Theatre candidates performed on a Harlequin Libertyยฎ LatchLoc sprung floor with a Harlequin Cascadeโข performance top surface.
RAD Artistic Director, Alexander Campbell, said: โAt this stage and level of ballet, it is important to know that you are secure with your footing so you can dance with the energy needed to put through the floor in order to do certain steps. It is absolutely crucial that we can offer that. If I know it is a Harlequin floor, I know Iโm in safe hands and a little bit of me can relax.โ
This year the competition had over 60 candidates from 13 different countries who all competed for various medals and awards, including the Dancerโs Own Choreographic Award and the Musicality Award.
Harlequin would like to congratulate all of this yearโs winners of The Fonteyn 2024 including Antonia Maria Cramb, 18 years old from Scotland, who won the Gold award.
